The same problems show up on small business landing pages over and over. Here are the five most common ones and what to do about each.
1. The headline talks about the business, not the customer
"Welcome to [Business Name]" and "Your trusted partner in excellence" tell a visitor nothing about what is in it for them. Your headline is the first thing people read and the main reason they stay or leave. Lead with the outcome you deliver. "Tax sorted for small businesses in Singapore" is more useful than "Experienced accounting firm."
2. No call to action above the fold
Above the fold means the part of the page visible without scrolling. On many small business sites, this space is filled with a large image and a company introduction. The button to get in touch is somewhere below. Most visitors never get there. Put your call to action somewhere visible before the visitor has to scroll, and make it specific. "Book a free call" converts better than "Contact us."
Pull up your page on your phone right now. If you cannot see a clear invitation to act without scrolling, that is a problem worth fixing today.
3. No trust signals
A first-time visitor does not know you. Generic claims like "quality service" and "passionate team" do not help. What does help: real reviews with names, specific results you have delivered, a photo of the actual person behind the business, or logos of clients you have worked with. Evidence converts. Assertions do not.
4. Slow loading on mobile
More than half of all website visits happen on phones. If your page takes more than three seconds to load, most of those visitors will leave before seeing anything. The most common cause is large uncompressed images. Use TinyPNG or Squoosh to compress them. It is free and takes minutes.
5. Too many things competing for attention
A page that asks visitors to book a call, follow you on Instagram, read your blog, sign up for a newsletter, and buy a product is a page with no clear goal. Confusion kills conversion. Pick the one thing you most want visitors to do and build the whole page around that single action. Remove or move everything else.
The difficult part is knowing which of these your page has. A free scan will check all five, score each one, and give you the specific fixes that will make the biggest difference to your enquiry rate.
